Letter to the Editor
|
Dear Editor,
Due to the construction of new dormitories on Main Campus, students staying in the surrounding dormitories have to live with extreme noise pollution. The workers start work at 8 a.m. and sometimes work till 9 p.m. Thus, we students living in the dormitories can neither sleep nor study. I respect the fact that Bilkent is making more space for future students, but I think the university should be aware of the fact that it is the students who have to bear the consequences of this construction work. I think the only solution to this problem would be to stop construction until the winter break so that the students can live and study in peace.
Salim Ahmed (MAN/IV)
In reply to the above letter, Ramiz Akgün, Manager of Construction and Maintenance wrote:
The construction of the new Student Dormitory is being continued, as it was originally planned for the year 2000. Upon receiving a letter from Salim Ahmed, one of our students staying at the dorm, we have considered his concerns to reduce the possible effects of the construction work on student life at the dorms. Consequently, we will ask the construction firm to change its working hours, so that they will be working between class hours, that is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to minimize the disturbance. All our work aims to provide a pleasant, comfortable environment for our students.
