Bilkent University will unveil the Atatürk Statue at the main entrance of the university on October 29, the 77th birthday of The Republic of Turkey. All Bilkenters are invited to the opening on Sunday, October 29 at 10 a.m.
The statue consists of Atatürk on one side, with two figures of a young man and a young woman holding hands on the other. The male figure bears the flag and the female raises a torch to the sky, symbolizing the loftiness of Atatürk's principles.
It is approximately six meters tall and was sculptured by Prof. Hüseyin Gezer, one of the most eminent sculptors in Turkey. Prof. Gezer is also known for his magnificient statue of Atatürk at Hacettepe University.
