INSITES - Theft in the Information Age
|
Have you used Napster to download music files? Have you copied software from a friend or photocopied a book? If so, you may have infringed copyright laws and deprived the creators of such intellectual works of valuable income. The courts could thus demand that you pay damages and even send you to jail. Is this fair? Does the fact that millions of other people around the world are all doing the same thing, make it right? Copyright law is clearly unenforceable in the Internet Age, so should it be changed or even dropped completely? Maybe, but, if no one can earn a living from such creative endeavours, what will happen to our art and culture? What do you think the future holds? What do you think should be done? Come join in the great debate, Tuesday, October 24, at 5:40 p.m. in Mithat Çoruh Auditorium, Engineering building.
