The first Paso Student Film Festival, organized by students from the Department of Communication and Design, was held between November 3 and 5 at the German Cultural Center in Ankara.
During Paso Student Film Festival, an audience of students from universities all over Turkey, and many others with a keen interest in cinema, had the chance to watch fifty-five newly-produced short films. The audience and the filmmakers were also invited to exchange ideas, which will doubtless influence the nature of future student independent productions.
While the special screening program from the Munich Film School presented the festival audience with a different perspective on filmmaking, the panels at the Paso Student Film Festival offered motion picture beginners constructive and practical introductory criticism.
After the Paso Student Film Festival, the students from the Department of Communication and Design expressed their happiness at
having met the cinema audience and the young filmmakers, and having successfully integrated a new festival into the Art House film scene in Turkey.
The festival was very important in the sense that students in Turkey had the opportunity to share their work with others, and had a chance to communicate with other students from various universities. It also provided an occasion for comparing their work.
Those who missed the chance to attend the Paso Student Film Festival should look out for forthcoming Paso activities on Bilkent campus and on the world-wide-web at www.art.bilkent.edu.tr/filmfest
