Dear Editor,
I would like to address the current problems, centering on service,
at the Library Photocopy Center on Main campus.
As you are probably aware, the photocopy center is frequently used
by the majority of Bilkent students and recently, they have enacted
a no-stapling policy. Although they are more than pleased to sell
you a plastic folder, they strongly refuse to staple your copies
together. I realize that in the overall realm of things, this
appears to be a very small issue but it isn’t for the numerous
students using the facility. Thank you very much for your help.

In Response to the Stapler Issue:
The Center has provided heavy-duty staplers for the use of
its customers, for both a few pages and thick stacks, in the past.
The large type stapler is very expensive; the Center purchased the
best brand available, precisely so that it would withstand heavy
use. Due to abuse, however, it only lasted 3 days. The smaller ones
are also mistreated and tend to “disappear”. A new large stapler is
expected in early December, but if it does not survive the abuse of
the users, in the future, the Center will be forced to staple large
groups of papers into smaller stacks. As usual, conscientious
customers are forced to suffer from the “misdeeds” of others.

Dear Editor,
To begin with, I'd like to thank BCC for the new Computer
Building. Not only are its computers and printers fast, but it’s
open 24 hours a day, which makes it easily accessible to all
students and staff members. Moreover, the facility is clean and well
maintained, making it a pleasure to use.
The PC labs in the FADA building, on the other hand, seem to
be on another planet. Most of the computers are either not running
or are too slow to use effectively. Rather than doing our
assignments, we spend most of our time waiting to get online or to
re-connect to the server. In addition, the printing cartridges are
always running out, and there is rarely any paper available.
The FADA labs, finally, are closed over the weekend and seem
to be totally ignored by the BCC. These labs are in dire need of
help, and so are the students who use them! The semester is coming
to an end - and so the needs of the labs are only going to increase.
Please help us to be better students by addressing these
problems!
Miray Akdağ (COMD/II)
In Response to the FADA Lab Issue:
We are aware of the problem and plans are being made to
upgrade that facility. We request that the FADA lab be used as an
alternate center - if the main BCC Computer Center is full. Sorry
for the inconvenience, help is on the way!

Dear Editor,
There is a conventional belief that young people are not
interested in classical music concerts. On Tuesday, November 27, I
experienced this once more when I went to the Bilkent Concert Hall
to listen to Emre Bolivar. There were only a few young people
attending the concert, and from my point of view, the Bilkent
student population at large is not aware of how useful these
cultural activities are.
For example, if we compare the same issue with universities
abroad, in order to have the opportunity to study there, not only
your cumulative average but also your participation in cultural and
social activities are considered by the enrollment board.
So, if you want to get rid of the stress in your daily lives
and relax, spare some time for these cultural activities. Once you
do, it will be easy for you to see how they can positively influence
your life!
Thank you,
Işın Erol (THM/II)
