Bilkent Faculty Invited to Join Association of Guitarists in Belgrade
Classical guitarists from all over eastern Europe gathered in Belgrade, Yugoslavia from December 21 to 23rd, in order to launch a new musical association.
Bilkent faculty Kürşad Terci and Kağan Korad were invited as the Turkish delegates to this congress due to the prior history of concerts they have given in various European countries. They are thus among the founders of this association, the essential aim of which is to link up into one group all of the best classical guitarists of Europe, and to promote the artistic projects of these guitarists. The association also hopes to coordinate academic exchanges and scholarships for students, to organize various seminars and courses, and to set up a library or archive of audio and visual recordings and publications. During their stay in Belgrade, Terci and Korad delivered a paper on the historical development and educational context of the classical guitar at Bilkent and in Turkey. They also gave a performance, choosing a repertoire of Turkish composers from Belgrade and Montenegro; this concert was broadcast on Yugoslavian TV and radio stations.
