Volunteers Reap Rewards

Bilkent students have been tutoring elementary school students voluntarily throughout the year. The project was conducted mostly in underprivileged areas where the children were not able to afford private tutors for Math or English. The program is organized by Kulüp Pozitif, 40Ambar Edebiyat Kulübü, Diplomasi Kulübü, Çocuk İşçiliğiyle Mücadele Kulübü, MEC.
A total of 100 Bilkent volunteers have been teaching Math, the Social Sciences, Turkish, English and Science; as well as donating their time for social activities such as chess, acting, debate, literature, basketball, volleyball and games to improve abilities in abstract thinking.
This project has been in effect for two years now, and 700 students have been participating from schools such as Mamak Misket İlköğretim Okulu, Cumhuriyet İlköğretim Okulu (Ulucanlar), Pakize Erdoğu İlköğretim Okulu (Balgat).
The aim is to offer, at least in some way, the opportunity of learning that we were lucky enough to have been given, to those who might not be so fortunate.
Volunteers say that they are very content and proud to be involved in such a project because they have learned a lot from the children they worked with.
