Three Bilkenters, Professor Mustafa Pultar (FADA), Emre Keskin (CS’03) and Ateş Yalabık (EE'03), have won a cup in the racer-cruiser class in this year’s Çakabey yacht race organized by the Turkish Offshore Racing Club. The race is held annually in the Sakız (Çeşme) strait to commemorate Çakabey, the admiral of the first Ottoman fleet.
This year’s race marked the 921st anniversary of the founding of the İzmir Beyliği (principality) on the northwestern shores of the Aegean sea and the islands of Midilli (Lesbos), Sakız (Chios) and Sisam (Samos) in the late 11th century.
Pultar heads the ÇİLİNGOZ sailing team, for which he is seeking experienced Bilkent recruits. In the near future, Keskin and Yalabık have plans for starting a sailing club at Bilkent. Contact them if you are interested in getting wet.
