Bend Your Body to Relax Your Soul

Are you tired of everlasting exam periods and homework? Do you need to relax your body and calm your senses? What you need is here, beside you. The Physical Education and Sports Center is currently offering Yoga classes supervised by Assoc. Prof. Gülsüm Baydar.
Yoga is the spiritual tradition within the great cultures of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism native to India. In its survival from antiquity to modernity, Yoga has undergone a number of transformations. Today, many Westerners practice Yoga techniques, divorced from their traditional background. Theory and practice go hand in hand in Yoga. Yoga can also be considered as a sports activity in which you can strengthen and stretch your body through the use of breathing techniques and physical exercises. But remember that it is not a competitive sport; the aim here is for you to explore your body, not to push your limits.
On the other hand, Yoga is also considered by many to be an alternative health approach. Extensive research has shown that patients with cancer, asthma, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis react positively to Yoga. It also seems to strengthen the immune system and release stress, something many students suffer from.
Gülsüm Baydar says: “The aim of yoga is to settle the often contradictory thoughts and feelings that govern our everyday lives, and to eliminate the doubts and fears that are generated by negative thoughts. Yoga helps to create a healthy body where thoughts, feelings and senses are balanced.”
Everyone who is interested in experiencing the magic of yoga is welcome to join the courses. The classes take place on Fridays, 5:45 - 7:15 p.m. at the Main Campus Sports Hall. Those interested can register at the entrance desk. For further information call the Physical Education and Sports Center at ext. 1993 or 1325.
