Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,
Last week, I stopped by the accounting office to buy an additional print quota card. I was shocked when I heard the price. They charged 6 million TLs for 100 pieces of A4 paper. In the city, we can buy it for less than 1 million TL. Since we are students, we all have a limited budget. So, why are we being overcharged?
Bilkent is known to be a university which has dedicated itself to science and research. And paper is a material which has an important place in our research and studies. Therefore, I think that the current price of paper should reflect the financial situation of the students. The solution might be to reduce the price to the fair market value or to increase the print quotas of students.

Response:
It is correct that we charge 6 million TL for 100 pages of laser printout. Please note that the charged amount is not simply for paper, but also covers the cost of toner and maintenance. It would be more accurate to compare the cost of a printed page with the cost of a photocopied page, rather than a blank one.
