Dear Editor,
I was very surprised last week to see my letter in the Bilkent News, which I believed would not be published since it was about an academic administrative issue. Thanks to Prof. Arkun for kindly addressing my letter. I am glad to see that Bilkent is with us when we face problems and feels free to "publicly" talk about the issues.
Reviewing the suggestions of Prof. Arkun, I checked the academic calendar once more. I would suggest that the finals begin on May 24, Monday, instead of 20 May, Thursday. That makes five days before the start of the finals, including the weekend and May 19, the National Holiday. That would be a middle point between the concerns of the administration and the students. I believe Bilkent should conduct further research about how this issue affects the success rates of students by either interpreting the statistics over the past few years or asking the professors for their viewpoints.
Finally, I would like to thank my professors and classmates who gave such positive feedback to me. I encourage all my friends to write the Bilkent News whenever they have a problem they wish to discuss.
Yours Sincerely.
