Bilkent Graduate TV Star Enthralls Students

Last week, the cast of the popular TV show “Çocuklar Duymasın” visited the university to meet with students. Organized by Yeni Ufuklar Kulübü, the question and answer session took place at the Main Campus Sports Hall. Answering the students’ many questions were Tamer Karadağlı, Pınar Altuğ, Özgür Ozan and writer Birol Güven. Bilkent News interviewed Tamer Karadağlı, graduate of Bilkent’s Theater Department, who plays the role of “Haluk” on “Çocuklar Duymasın”.

You have became famous over the past few months because of your outstanding performance and success in this show. How has fame changed your life?
I was known before as “Selçuk” from “Ferhunde Hanımlar,” which was shown on TRT1. Now people know me as “Haluk” and this time it seems that I’m even more popular. However, it really hasn’t affected my life that much because deep down inside, I don't feel like I'm famous at all!

Do you think that you have achieved your goals?

No! I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to say that, because I feel that it’s wrong for anyone, myself included, to limit their imagination and dreams. When I am 80, I will still be dreaming of new things to do.
Plans for the near future?
A movie, probably for next summer.

Are there any advantages to being a Bilkent graduate?

I am one of the first graduates from Bilkent’s Department of Theater. I believe that as theater students we had a great education. We had to work a lot. Above all, we had a chance to work with professionals.

How does it feel to be a guest speaker at the university that you graduated from?

It feels great. I feel like I am both a guest and still a part of Bilkent. I had an exam in this building (Faculty of Engineering Building) and when I first entered the building today I really felt nostalgic, remembering my old school days.

Do you have any advice for Bilkent students?

First of all they should think big. For me, Bilkent is one of the best universities in the world and they should take full advantage of studying here.
I am proud of being a Bilkent graduate. Bilkent gave me the insight to envision what my future could bring.
