This April will be a month of music and art for Ankara, and Radio Bilkent will be part of it. For years, the station has been a media sponsor of a number of events. One of the most important among them is the International Ankara Music Festival organized by the Sevda Cenap And Music Foundation.
This year marks the 32nd time the International Ankara Music Festival will take place. The festival begins on Saturday, April 4, and will continue until the end of the month.
Although Radio Bilkent’s format is based on contemporary hit music, the station supports all kinds of musical events and cultural and artistic activities. The 32nd International Ankara Music Festival is a musical feast in itself, with 19 events appealing to many different tastes in music.
The festival will host over 500 musicians from 16 countries. These include such varied ensembles and artists as the Eric Alexander Jazz Quartet, the Children’s Choir of Vienna, the Debussy Quartet from France, “princess of fado” Christina Branco, the National Dance and Music Society of Moldova, the acrobatic dance group CIRCA from Australia and the Huaxia Ancient Music Society from the People’s Republic of China.
One of most unusual highlights of the festival will be a concert by a robot pianist. The robot and its creator Roberto Prosseda (who is also a pianist) will appear with conductor Ertuğ Korkmaz and the Orchestra Academic Başkent. It is claimed that the robot pianist can play a score with 100 percent accuracy.
