On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Sarıkamış, the Governorship of Kars and the Ministry of Youth and Sports held a memorial program, entitled “Turkey Walks With Its Martyrs,” to honor the soldiers who fell during the battle. BELS students and teachers attended the commemoration ceremony, which took place on Sunday, January 4, in Sarıkamış, Kars.
There, they joined the 40,000 people, ranging in age from 7 to 70, who came from all over Turkey and marched 8.5 km in -10°C weather to pay tribute to the nameless heroes who lost their lives in the freezing cold during the Battle of Sarıkamış, fought between the Ottoman Empire and Russia one hundred years ago (December 22, 1914-January 15, 1915).
