Professor İhsan Doğramacı, the founder of Bilkent University, was commemorated last Wednesday, February 25 on the fifth anniversary of his death with a panel and a concert. His family, colleagues, and the Bilkent community paid tribute to his memory and celebrated his ongoing legacy.
The panel, “In Commemoration of the Fifth Anniversary of İhsan Doğramacı’s Passing,” was preceded by a moment of silence and a showing of the film “İhsan Doğramacı,” before continuing with speeches by Prof. Kürşat Aydoğan, Vice Rector for Financial Affairs; Asst. Prof. Rasim Özyürek, Director of Training Programs for Regional Countries; İsmail Tümerkan and Vasıf İnanç, Faculty of Law students; Prof. Hamza Zülfikar, Ankara University; Prof. Abide Doğan, Hacettepe University; and Prof. Murat Yurdakök, Hacettepe University Institute of Child Health.
All of the speakers referred to Prof. Doğramacı’s immense contributions to education, Turkish culture, health and humanity, some by sharing anecdotes that illustrated aspects of these contributions.
The commemoration concluded in the evening with a concert in memory of Prof. Doğramacı, with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra performing pieces by C. Nielsen, W. A. Mozart and G. Holst, conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
