Teams from Bilkent Erzurum Elementary/Middle School and High School recently participated in the Destination Imagination regional tournament in Ankara. Destination Imagination’s Challenge Program is a global event for young people, in which teams compete in one of seven challenge categories. The competition begins at the regional level, with winning teams going on to the national level and eventually the global finals.

The Elementary/Middle School teams Kayan Yıldızlar and Yaratıcı Frankensteinlar, mentored by team managers Leyla Goldfinger and Tuğçe Dinç, were participating in the event for the first time. Kayan Yıldızlar competed with nine other teams in the Fine Arts Challenge and ended up in first place. The challenge, called “Feary Tales,” involved writing a play that included different art formats. Working together as a team, the students found a creative solution to a real-life problem in a very short time.

Participants interacted with others and improved their social skills during the tournament. They showed amazing sportsmanship and had fun as well. Kayan Yıldızlar will now go on to participate in the Destination Imagination national event in İstanbul.

Bilkent Erzurum High School teams Prenses Cemal, Techno Guys and FDI also won honors for their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.They competed in the Scientific Challenge, Technical Challenge and Structural Challenge categories. Prenses Cemal placed second in the science category, while Techno Guys and FDI placed third in the technical and structural categories, respectively.

Expressing their satisfaction after the event, team managers Öykü Dulun, Kobus Nel and Yasemin Kuş said, “This is the most important course in education.” Team members were also elated, saying this was the best experience they had ever had.

Destination Imagination, Inc.is a nonprofit, volunteer-led effort dedicated to enriching the global community by providing opportunities for learners of all ages to explore and discover the creative process, from imagination to innovation. To this point, more than 1.5 million young people and adults have taken part in its Challenge Program.
