One of the TDP volunteer units, Günköy, carried out its main project of the current academic year during the weekend of April 11-12, working at a village school in Bursa, İznik.
Günköy’s aim is to provide assistance to schools in villages where educational opportunities are limited. They endeavor to make improvements in a school’s facilities and resources and also to enrich the educational experiences of the children in the village.
At the school where they conducted their project this semester, the volunteers organized themselves into two groups. One group did renovation work on the school building. They painted and refurbished two classrooms, converting them into bright, cheery spaces to house the school library and provide a room for drama classes.
The other group organized activities for the children, giving them a chance to do things that are not normally part of their school day. These included sports, music, art and science-related activities. At the end of the weekend, the volunteers put on a theater show for all the children.
