DHDP (Demiryolu Hattı Destek Projesi/Railroad Support Project) has completed another journey. DHDP is one of the fifteen projects coordinated by TDP (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri/Social Awareness Projects), the student-run umbrella organization for volunteer work at Bilkent.
Each year, DHDP volunteers go to an elementary school outside Ankara by train. They sleep on the train and, in the daytime, do fun and educational activities with elementary school students. This year, the project went to Şekilli Şehit Osman Elementary and Middle School in Yerköy, Yozgat.
More than 30 volunteers made the trip to Yerköy. There, they spent three days interacting with students. Activities included bubble painting, a treasure hunt, a “survivor” contest, ebru (paper marbling) and a presentation about jobs.
For their work on the project, DHDP coordinators Sena Arıdıcı (ECON/II) and Ezgi Tümer (ARCH/II) received awards presented by representatives of the Ministry of Education.
