Six Bilkent faculty members were among the individuals receiving this year’s Outstanding Young Scientist Awards from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA). The awards were presented at a ceremony held on December 14 at the presidential palace.
The Bilkent awardees were: Assoc. Prof. Selim Aksoy (Computer Engineering); Asst. Prof. Çağlar Çekiç (Molecular Biology and Genetics); Asst. Prof. Tolga Çukur (Electrical and Electronics Engineering); Asst. Prof. Engin Durgun (UNAM); Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Gündüz Demir (Computer Engineering); and Asst. Prof. Emine Ülkü Sarıtaş Çukur (Electrical and Electronics Engineering).
The award recipients also included Bilkent graduates Assoc. Prof. Yavuz Dede (CHEM/’99), Asst. Prof. Sinem Çöleri Ergen (EE/’00), Asst. Prof. Sedat Nizamoğlu (EE/’11), Asst. Prof. Özgür Ergül (EE/’09) and Assoc. Prof. Hakan Usta (CHEM/’04). Bilkent faculty and graduates thus made up 11 of the 38 recipients this year.
TÜBA introduced its Program to Award Young Scientists (GEBİP) in 2001 to recognize and support outstanding researchers in fields in the natural and social sciences, engineering and medicine.
