A production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is currently being staged by Department of Performing Arts students at the FMPA Theater. This one-act Turkish-language production of William Shakespeare’s comedy premiered on Friday, with the remaining performances to take place April 26 (this evening), 27 and 28 at 8 p.m.
The play portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, duke of Athens, to the Amazon queen Hippolyta. These include the adventures of two pairs of young lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies inhabiting the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.
The director of the Bilkent production is Yunus Emre Bozdoğan, with Betül Tirben as assistant director. Cast members are Hakan Coşar, Kıvanç Değirmenci, İpek Erim and Ecesu Sevindik. Lighting is by Yılmaz Ertekin and poster design by Mobileo Mobilei. The technical crew consists of Selim Galip, Oğuzhan Keskin and Ege Kesmeci, with Adnan Atalan as stage manager.
