Last week, the Department of Communication and Design held a workshop as part of Asst. Prof. Andreas Treske’s Advanced Broadcast Studio course.
The department had invited Uli Peschke from Berlin, winner of the Diapason d’Or award for his work as stage director for the Berliner Philharmoniker’s production of the “St. Matthew Passion,” to conduct the workshop. He worked closely with Mr. Treske and another COMD faculty member, Dr. Lutz Peschke.
The purpose of the workshop was to train students in multi-camera production and live recording. “What we mainly did was shoot a concert at the Bilkent Concert Hall in order to show students how we work on live streaming and how you can best use different cameras,” said Mr. Peschke. “This technical, hands-on exercise also showed how we try to catch emotions on film by taking various shots, including wide shots.”
Students were enthusiastic about the workshop. “It was a great learning experience, working with professionals and getting advice from them,” said fourth-year COMD student Janat Tolubaev.
Another senior COMD student, Damla Demirel, added, “We got very nervous if anything went wrong, but the professors were very encouraging, which had a positive effect on our performance. In live-streaming shoots, it’s important to be relaxed and skillful at the same time, so I’m glad I got to practice this here.”
