Last week, Turkey’s 53rd Library Week was celebrated around the country. The aim of the event is to focus attention on books, libraries and librarians, and to encourage the habit of reading. At Bilkent, the University Library marked Library Week with a series of activities.
During Wednesday lunchtime, the annual “Bring a Book, Let’s Read Together” activity brought Bilkent students and academic and administrative staff together on the lawn between the Main Campus Library and the Rectorate building for an outdoor communal reading session.
On Thursday, a “book shelving game” was held at the Library Art Gallery, in which Bilkenters competed to correctly shelve the most books. Ertuğrul Altınözen was the winner, with İbrahim Akar taking second place and Afşin Gözlügül third.
On Friday, Bilkent librarians gave a workshop titled “Third Place and the Library” at the Library Art Gallery.
