A translation of ancient Sumerian royal epics by instructor Ali Turan Görgü of the Turkish Unit, Faculty of Humanities and Letters, and Asst. Prof. Selim Ferruh Adalı (IR/’02) of the Social Sciences University of Ankara has been published by İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları. This is the first time these particular epics have been translated from their original language into Turkish.
Dating from the 22nd to 17th centuries BC, the epics have survived to the present day on clay tablets. Originally meant to be recited for and enjoyed by an audience, they praise the military exploits of the legendary Sumerian kings Enmerkar and Lugalbanda.
