LauzHack is a student-run hackathon held annually at EPFL, a research institute and university in Lausanne, Switzerland. This year, 300 students from 24 countries were selected to participate in the event, which took place earlier this month. A team of four Computer Engineering seniors from Bilkent University went to the hackathon and won the algorithm challenge put forward by one of the “silver sponsors” of the event, Credit Suisse Bank.
The students, Erkam Berker Şenol, Mert Aytöre, Gökhan Şimşek and Figali Taho, were able to build in-depth analysis algorithms for detecting financial crime patterns and present the data in an informative and user-friendly way within the allotted 24-hour period. Their project, “Find the Fraud,” was selected as one of the two winning projects. Each member of the winning teams was awarded a Google Home device for their achievement.
