Last week, Turkey’s 54th Library Week was celebrated around the country, with the aim of focusing attention on books, libraries and librarians, and encouraging the habit of reading. At Bilkent, the University Library marked Library Week with a series of activities.
During Wednesday lunchtime, the annual “Bring a Book, Let’s Read Together” activity brought Bilkent students and academic and administrative staff together on the lawn between the Main Campus Library and the Rectorate building for an outdoor communal reading session.
On Thursday, a conversation on the topic “They Have Established Their 16th Library!,” featuring the Bilkent University “The Sun Rises From the Village” project team volunteers, took place in the Main Library Art Gallery. The volunteers talked about their work in setting up libraries for village schools in various provinces of Turkey.
And on Friday, a contest challenging participants to “Find the Library Map, Win the Prize” was held at the Library, in which Bilkenters competed to find the library map located somewhere in the building. First to find the map was Abdullah Talayhan; he was named the contest winner.
