The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has named two Bilkent University graduates, Ruhi Sarıkaya (EE ’95) and İsmail Güvenç (EE ’01), as 2021 IEEE Fellows.The grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The Fellow is the highest grade of IEEE membership, presented in a given year to at most one-tenth of one percent of the organization’s total voting membership; being named a Fellow is recognized by the technical community as a great honor and an important career achievement.
Dr. Sarıkaya was recognized for his leadership in the area of spoken language–processing and conversational understanding systems, and Dr. Güvenç for his contributions in the area of heterogeneous wireless networks and wireless localization.
The IEEE has 400,000 members in 160 countries, who are active in a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.
