The Library Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Claire Arkas.
Born in İzmir in 1978, Claire Arkas studied at the Ecole Cantonale d’Arts du Valais in Sierre, Switzerland, and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Ms. Arkas focuses on engraving, painting and lithography. She has held two exhibitions in İzmir, and three in İstanbul.
The artist is currently working in her Izmir studio. She is inspired by the Post-Impressionists and Les Nabis but has developed her own style.
Ms. Arkas paints “situations” in a figurative style and tries to convey body language and feelings through her art; she is keen on observing life, moments, happenings. Her pleasure in reconstructing lines, light and colors on the canvas mixes with her memories of the past, creating an opportunity for the viewer to share the enchantment.
Her exhibit at Bilkent will run until May 10 and will be open every day (except Sundays) between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
