In this feature, “All About Clubs and Societies,” Bilkent News is highlighting a different student club or society each issue. The Bilkent Psychology Society aims to ensure that everyone – including not only psychology majors but other students as well – gets to know psychology better and gains more information about this field. The club’s many activities and events are planned with this goal in mind.
The society hosts two major annual events: Neuroscience Days and Psychology Days. Neuroscience Days, which has been organized in partnership with the Bilkent Genetic Society for the past nine years, consists of seminars given by scientists working in neuroscience and related areas.
Psychology Days features seminars given by experts in various areas of psychology. This semester marks the third time the society will be holding the event.
In addition to these annual events, the society began holding a new series of seminars, “Pioneers of Psychology,” last semester. The series hosts speakers from both Turkey and abroad who have pioneered in various areas of psychology.
Participation in the Bilkent Psychology Society’s events and activities is not limited to just Bilkent students or psychology majors; they are open to everyone, because the society wholeheartedly believes that psychology is a science that has an essential role in everyone’s life. That’s why, in the society’s social media accounts, information about psychological phenomena and diseases is shared, lesser-known subfields of psychology are introduced, and common misconceptions about psychology corrected.
During the pandemic period the society has conducted most of its events online, but it is hoped that more in-person activities can be held as soon as the situation improves.
