In this new feature, “All About Clubs and Societies,” Bilkent News is highlighting a different student club or society each issue, starting with those that were established at the beginning of the 2021–22 academic year. The Social Sciences Research Society (SSRS) aims to encourage the growth of interdisciplinary study and investigation at Bilkent. The society also aspires to promote study in areas such as quantitative methods, political economy, political psychology and sociology of the economy, as well as the study of topics such as energy and blockchain.
In addition, through training sessions, workshops and projects with real-life applications, SSRS endeavors to create an atmosphere of interactive learning and sharing. The society is currently working on events that include career days, networking sessions and diplomacy simulations as well as the provision of innovative formats for guest appearances. Their efforts will, they hope, enable members of the Bilkent community to meet with experts who have groundbreaking ideas to share.
SSRS has seven subgroups: Public and Urban Policies; Private Sector Studies; IR and Politics; The Economy; Finance and Blockchain; Energy and Defense; Psychology and Sociology.
These groups are free to organize their own events, in keeping with the SSRS’s principle that each branch is responsible for studying and presenting a topic important to society.
