A “Different Vision” of Art from Georgia
On Monday, April 4, an exhibition of works by three contemporary Georgian artists opened in the FADA Art Gallery. Titled “Different Vision,” the exhibition will run only through Wednesday, April 6. It features works, mainly oil/acrylic on canvas, representing the different aesthetic styles and narratives of contemporary Georgian art.
All three of the artists whose works are displayed in “Different Vision” are current or emeritus professors at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Gia Gugushvili, rector of the academy, is exhibiting nonfigurative works as well as minimalist figurative compositions. David Alexidze, dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the academy, is exhibiting postmodernist works with mystic and realistic imagery. Tamaz Varvaridze, emeritus professor in the Faculty of Visual Arts and graphic director at the academy, is exhibiting various conceptual works.
During their visit to Bilkent in connection with the exhibition, the artists are also presenting lectures and workshops. On Monday, Prof. Gugushvili gave a lecture on “Georgian Art in Post-Soviet Space.” On April 5 and 6, Prof. Alexidze is offering two workshops for students in the Department of Fine Arts, while Prof. Varvaridze is giving a lecture and a workshop for students in the Department of Graphic Design on April 6.
