Fifth PASO Student Film Fest on the Way
The Fifth Paso Student Film Festival, organized by the Bilkent University Faculty of
Art, Design and Architecture, Gazi University İletisim Fakültesi, Başkent University
İletisim Fakültesi, METU GISMA and Ankara University İletisim Fakültesi, invites
university students to submit their creative films for showing.
The first Paso Film Fest, which took place five years ago, was the brainchild of Bilkent
COMD students. They wanted to be able to show their film project and see others' projects
as well. A student named Engin Kaya came up with the name, which refers to the identity
card, or paso, that all students have. So, if you have a paso, that is also your pass to
join in the festival as a filmmaker or a viewer.
This year's Paso Film Fest will include guest entries from Germany, Georgia and England.
If you want to submit your project, the deadline is March 28. To be
eligible, you must be a student, and your film should be no longer than half an hour and
produced after 2003.
Coordinator Andreas Treske says there will be no single winner; rather, everyone who makes
a movie and participates in the Paso Film Fest will be a winner. He has a hint for student
filmmakers: in order to make a successful film, try to keep it simple--KIS.
The Paso Film Festival will be held April 19-23 at the German Cultural
Center in Ankara. After the showing of the films, the audience will have the opportunity
to participate in a discussion session about what they have seen. For more information,

A
Journey Through History
A group of student volunteers working on the Üniversite Personeline Destek Projesi
(ÜPDP), a project that assists the children of Bilkent non-academic personnel,
arranged a trip to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations last Saturday, March 12. Despite
unfavorable weather conditions, 9 volunteers and 30 children visited the museum in Ulus.
The project, which is a TDP-TOG Bilkent Group program, supports the children of
non-academic personnel not only educationally but also socially, with activities being
held every Saturday. Last Saturday's museum visit showed the children the accumulated
history of the land they are living on, from the very early existence of mankind in
Anatolia to the period of Turkish settlement.
While there, the students enriched their knowledge of Anatolian history by looking at
artifacts produced by the various civilizations that inhabited Anatolia. Other purposes of
the trip were to teach them how to behave in a museum, and to emphasize the importance of
the world's cultural and historical heritage.
