Fitness Tips

by Dr. Alper Uğraş

Which type of exercise will help me burn up the most calories?
The basic rule is that the fuel you burn is governed by the amount of weight you move and the distance you move it. Therefore, the same exercises that contribute to cardiovascular fitness are also those that burn the most calories. Select activities that involve total body activity, that are rhythmical and that can be maintained for a longer period of time. Aerobic dance is great!

Why should I do my weight program three or four times a week rather than every day?
Research indicates little difference in strength gains between a three- or four-day program and a seven-day program. Also, the body requires a certain amount of rest for rejuvenation and growth.

How much should I increase my "weight load" from week to week?
-Each person is different and does not respond to training in the same way.
-The entry level of strength will be different for each person.
-Maximum strength limits will be different.
-Initial gains will be greater for those who start out further from their maximum strength limit.
-Gains will decrease as an individual approaches his or her maximum limit.
