PROLOGUE TO MY PERSPECTIVE

“The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning"

It felt right to start my first new column for the Bilkent News. It's the beginning of a new semester and the beginning of this column. And it's also an end, the end of a summer full of nice memories--watching sunrises and sunsets, and spending time at beautiful beaches (or should I say beach clubs?)--all the good stuff that we had to leave behind. We are once again saying farewell to the old and hello to the new.

This beginning is, as always, quite hard for me--changing my location, moving all the boxes and living like a homesick migrant. There are two good things. One is, each year I try to make the package heavier. The second is, being able to count down the years to graduation makes me feel more comfortable. Surely this is a totally new beginning that will also have an end. By knowing that there is an "end," I can enjoy each moment more.

Okay, enough philosophy. First, I would like to let you know a little bit about me. I was born in İstanbul and lived there until I came to Ankara. I'm studying Communication and Design, and this is my third year. After I graduate, I'm planning to be a journalist, so writing for the Bilkent News is a good opportunity for me.

You may remember or have heard of the "Faces on Campus" and "Voices on Campus" articles that I wrote last semester. In the "Faces" series, you were able to learn a little bit about the people who work at Bilkent, and read the stories they told me about their (often funny) experiences with students. Unlike last year, I'm now planning to add my own perspectives about the various things going on around campus and in my life. I'm not wiser than any of you, nor will I experience anything more than you will. My purpose is to just to add a little bit of fun to your life and allow us to share some thoughts while you read this column, nothing more than that... Anyway, remember, everything has an end. And now it's the end of my first column. Take care and always be open to new beginnings. Farewell for now…
