Letter to the Editor |
Dear Bilkent News,
Just a brief letter/comment based on my experience with the Meteksan Market:
More or less everybody seems to accept that we are better off leaving the
“1 Yeni Kuruş” coins out of circulation, and that shopping bills therefore
should be rounded off to a 5 Yeni Kuruş amount. But why, I ask myself from time to time,
does the Meteksan Market on Central Campus always seem to round off the bills to their
advantage? When purchasing groceries for YTL 55.01, why can they not give up one Yeni
Kuruş, rather than requesting four extra Yeni Kuruş from me? Why, in other words, does
the Meteksan Market seem to systematically take money from their customers?
Tore Fougner IR
Dear Mr. Fougner,
The Meteksen Market on the main campus is not aiming to systematically take money from our
customers.
It is the policy of the store not to require our customers to give us such small
denominations as on a bill of, as you specified, YTL 55.01.
Moreover, it is our policy to always give our customers the correct amount of change or to
round up in the favor of our customer. For instance, if your bill was YTL 55.01 and you
gave the clerk YTL 60, we would give you YTL 5 in return.
We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding in this matter.
Sincerely,
Meteksan Market A.Ş.
