Dear Editor,
I suggest that you make the Bilkent News totally on-line. You could automatically send a
letter via email to the entire campus on Tuesday morning, reminding us that it is ready.
In the letter, you could put links to sections and/or headlines. You could thus easily
count how many times each article in the paper is read. And, you'd save trees, YTL, and
the environment!
Kindest regards,
Erin Maloney (BF)
Response to the Letter:
Dear Ms. Maloney,
Thank you for your letter suggesting that the Bilkent News be completely on-line.
Presently, the Bilkent News is published online and is updated on Tuesday afernoon, after
the newspaper comes out on Tuesday. For the time being we will continue to publish the
newspaper in print format, as this is the way all newspapers are published. However, if
people would like to reduce how much waste is generated as a result of the Bilkent News,
please do look at the paper online rather than taking a paper copy and we will reassess
our numbers for printing. That is, if we see a decrease in the demand for printed copies
we will reduce the number that we print in the future. Please remember too, that the paper
is printed on recycled paper and that the paper itself can be recycled in the blue bins on
campus when you have finished reading it.
