THE VOICE

WELCOME BACK TO BİLKENT…

From now on, I will write this column from time to time instead of weekly. I hope you enjoyed my writings over the past year. All of them filled with joy that turned into words.
This week, I will share some information about the cultural activities that will take place over the next two weeks. I don't know if this happens to you, but I always miss concerts, and most of the time I do not even hear or read about them. If you are like me, maybe you will be able to catch up on the cultural life of Ankara in the coming weeks.

I want to start with the activity that is right on campus: the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra's concerts. This year, each Saturday you may enjoy a classical music experience with the BSO. On November 4th, Antoni Witt (conductor) and İdil Biret will be with the BSO, on November 11th, Işın Metin will conduct and Arzu and Gamze Kırtıl will perform on November 18th, Emil Tabakov will conduct and Mintcho and Nikolai Mintchev will perform finally, on November 25th, the guest conductor will be Patrick Gallois. For more information about the concerts please check the web site: http://www.bso. bilkent.edu.tr
I recommend you attend one of these concerts, as this is an ideal way to relax your mind while feeding your soul.

For jazz and blues fans this month is full of festivities. On the 24th and 25th of November, the 17th Efes Pilsen Blues Festival will take place at the Hilton. However, though the festival is called a blues festival, in Biletix the concert is shown as a jazz concert. Also, starting in November there are a number of other jazz concerts. On the 1st, “The Manhattan Transfer” is performing at the Anatolia Showland. On the 7th, Anna Maria Jopek will play at the Swiss Hotel. Performing at METU Culture and Congress Center: on the 16th, JP Gallis with Apopsis 7 featuring Sibel Köse, on the 17th will be the Ester Kaiser Trio and on the 18th Re-sim Üçlüsü and Tuna Ötenel Quartet will play.

There are two more events that I want bring to your attention. At the Anatolia Showland on the 3rd of November is a show by Sertab Erener and Fahir Atakoğlu and on the 4th, Carmen- Compania de Aida Gomez will perform.

I am especially interested in the show of Aida Gomez who is a very famous flamenco dancer and producer. For more information on all of these concerts and shows, including ticket prices, visit: http://www.biletix. com
The Çankaya Devlet Symphony Orchestra has many concerts too: http://www.mybilet.com/about.aspx

As a last suggestion: you may want to frequently visit these sites to learn about upcoming events. I hope this information is useful and that some of you will be able to enjoy these events.

May you all have a good time full of cultural activities; see you soon!
