Different Aspects of Evolution: 150th Anniversary of the Origins of Species

The “Different Aspects of Evolution: 150th Anniversary of the Origins of Species” seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 25 at the  Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences (C-Block), organized by the Science and Scientific Philosophy Circle in collaboration with the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Topics and guest speakers: 
“Evolution of Life on Earth,” Asst. Prof. Dr. Osman Gürel (Ankara U. F. of Science, Dept. of Chemistry); “Evolution of the Genome,” Asst. Prof. Dr. Uygar Tazebay (Bilkent U. F. of Science, Dept. of Mol. Bio. Gen.); “Why Naturalism is the Foundation of the Theory of Evolution? Why should it be so?” Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Sol (METU Dept. of Phil.); “Does Philosophy of Biology = Philosophy of Evolution? A search for an answer from a book's perspective,” Prof. Dr. Yaman Örs  (Ankara U. F. of Med., Science and Scientific Philosophy Circle). 

Chair person:  Asst. Prof. Dr. Meral Kence (METU Dept. of Mol. Bio. and Genetics)
This seminar is held to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of The Origins of Species by Charles Darwin. The Science and Scientific Philosophy Circle was founded by academics from different disciplines in 2000, and continues to hold panels, seminars on related and contemporary topics in science, and on social and ethical issues.
