The Art Gallery of Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture hosted the "Universities Talk About Refugees" exhibition between November 9-16.
The pieces were tragic symbols of hope. They gave visitors an inside look into the life of a refugee from a woman's or child's perspective.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Ankara coordinated the event to display art pieces created by students from Bilkent, Başkent, Doğuş, Erciyes, Gazi, Kocaeli, Maltepe, Mersin, Mimar Sinan and Süleyman Demirel Universities.
"While in another part of the world, people are celebrating the collapse of the Berlin Wall, I am happy to see you here," said Representative of UNHCR Turkey Michel Gaude in his opening speech. "In Turkey, the first word spoken to people is 'Hoşgeldiniz.' Therefore, you can easily comprehend the hospitality of the Turkish people. I am happy to see your pieces. Artists and fine arts do not like wars. They like bypassing destructive wars."
