Bilkent News Picture Challenge
I Know Where You've Been This Week

BY TULYA KAVAKLIOĞLU (MBG/IV)

Hello everyone! I guess the previous week's puzzle was a piece of cake for you all. But be ready for more walking and searching, and just remember, if you are able to find out where exactly in campus the picture here was taken from, a coffee from Coffee Break or a lunch from Le Piment Rouge may be waiting for you.

Last week we had a picture of a detail from Prof. İhsan Doğramacı statue located in front of B Building.  This statue was a gift from Haydar Aliyev, Hoca Bey's close friend and the third President of Azerbaijan.  Doğramacı and Aliyev first met in an official capacity. Because of Aliyev's accent, Doğramacı thought he was from Erbil, one of the largest cities in Iraq and the place where Doğramacı was born. This started a lifelong friendship between the two men. Every year Aliyev organized celebrations for Doğramacı's birthday.

One year, Aliyev gave as a birthday present to Doğramacı the 3-meter high statue. After the gift was presented to Doğramacı, it was stored for 5 years because Doğramacı wanted the statue to be erected after his death. However he could not say no to Aliyev's wish to display the statue without waiting, so the statue was placed in front of B building in 2002.

One more thing: graduation is just around the corner for me. So if you are interested in taking over this enjoyable corner, go ahead and contact us.

Prizes will be: The first two correct answers win coffee from Coffee Break.

The 15th correct answer wins lunch for one from Le Piment Rouge. iletisim@bilkent.edu.tr
