SPIE Innovation Award Goes to UNAM Graduate Students
UNAM (Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology) graduate students Burak Türker, Hasan Güner, Öner Ekiz and Serkan Karayalçın, who are pursuing their academic research under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Aykutlu Dana, received a runner-up award for their research project presented at the SPIE Photonics Europe conference, held in Brussels April 15-19.
SPIE is a leading international society for the fields of optics and photonics. Its Photonics Europe conference includes an "Innovation Village" to promote some of the world's most promising research projects. Dr. Dana's students were chosen as one of the final 16 teams for their project "MoBiSense: A Truly Low-Cost and Disposable Molecular Sensor as a Multi-Purpose Sensing Platform." Following the team's mini-booth presentations at the conference, a judging committee led by SPIE's president, Prof. Eustace Dereniak, selected their project to receive (as runner-up) the society's prestigious award for innovation.
