"Light": Loneliness Glows Where There is No Light
“Light," a film directed by Ufuk Önen and starring Yusuf Akçura, both Department of Communication and Design (COMD) instructors, is the delicate story of a lamppost that falls in love with the man who gives it a reason to live. Ten of the 13 members of the film's production and post-production crews are COMD employees or graduates. The shooting was done over two days with a DSLR camera, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, and the editing was completed on a Final Cut Pro system. None of the production sound recordings were used; instead, the "sonic world" of "Light" was recreated from scratch in Pro Tools. The film was introduced to North American viewers in August 2011, when it was screened at the 4th Annual Columbia Gorge International Film Festival in Vancouver, Washington. "Light" had its second US screening at the 7th SoCal International Film Festival in Huntington Beach, California.
