LAUD Faculty Member Appointed to Executive Board of the Architects' Council of Europe
Asst. Prof. Bülent Batuman has been elected to the Executive Board of the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE) to serve for a two-year term in 2013-14. The ACE represents the architectural profession at the Europe-wide level and, through its member organizations, the interests of over 500,000 architects. The Council works toward influencing EU legislative processes related to the architectural profession and the built environment. It also seeks to promote the role of the profession in improving the quality of life for citizens across Europe.
The Executive Board of the ACE is composed of 11 members, 6 of whom are elected by the general assembly, with the remaining 5 nominated from member organizations in rotation. This year, Turkey had the opportunity to put forward a candidate for the Board, and the Chamber of Architects of Turkey nominated Dr. Batuman for this position. His responsibilities will include serving as vice-coordinator for the area "Access to the Profession," which includes matters related to education and training in architecture, professional qualifications, accreditation and validation of institutions, and continuing professional development.
