Board of Trustees Meets
The Bilkent University Board of Trustees met on February 8, 2013. Present at the meeting were Board Chairman Ali Doğramacı, Lucien Arkas, İlker Baybars, Turgay Coşkun, Gülsev Kale, Ali Karaosmanoğlu, Ahmet Nalbur, Ersin Özince, Şencan Özme, Muhsin Saraçlar, Lütfü Sel, Ergün Toğrol, Ergül Tunçbilek, Z. Boğaç Üner and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
At the meeting, the Board approved the decision by the University Senate to award an honorary doctorate to Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, French political advisor, businessman and former European Commissioner for Trade.
The Board also reviewed and approved the University Senate decision on final exam qualifications and retake exams (which can be read, in Turkish, on Bilkent University's website), as well as a number of proposals put forth by the Senate regarding various changes to the Academic Rules and Regulations and the regulations for internal transfer.
In addition, the Board approved the establishment of a new Entrepreneurship Center within the Faculty of Business Administration, which will aim to advance and support entrepreneurship in our community and throughout Turkey by encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and knowledge among students, stakeholders and community members, and by promoting research.
The Board also approved moving the Department of Translation and Interpretation from the School of Applied Languages to the Faculty of Humanities and Letters.
After approving these proposals, the Board of Trustees reviewed the revised budget for 2012-2013 and set the tuition rates for the upcoming academic year. For Turkish students admitted to Bilkent in the years 2005 to 2013, tuition will be 22,250 TL. This corresponds to a 6.97% increase over the previous academic year. For those admitted in 2004, tuition will be $11,760; for those admitted in 2001, 2002 and 2003, it will be $10,000. Tuition for all international students will be $13,950. All of these fees include 8% VAT.
