COMD Brings International Audio Technologies Conference to Bilkent

Bobby Owsinski

On November 1-2, the Department of Communication and Design (COMD) hosted ATMM 2012. ATMM (Audio Technologies for Music and Media) is an interdisciplinary international conference that focuses on the various aspects of audio, audiovisual and music technologies for music and media, and also on the relationship between sound, music and image in both "traditional" and "new" media.

At the conference, the opening remarks were delivered by Rector Abdullah Atalar, Ufuk Önen (COMD) and Teoman Pasinlioğlu. The ATMM 2012 keynote speech, given by longtime music industry veteran Bobby Owsinski, concerned the connection between social media and the music/audio industry.

The conference included 24 presentations by academicians and industry professionals from around Turkey as well as from Australia and Greece. There were also two music performances, one by Uğur Satılmış and İsra Özsalar, both Bilkent graduates, and the other by Dr. Gökçe Altay of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.

On the second day of the event, Mr. Owsinski held a workshop on music and audio production techniques. One of the first music producers to delve into surround sound music mixing, he has worked with bands and musicians including Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, The Ramones and Chicago, and has also lectured extensively and authored 16 books on recording, music and the music business. The workshop offered those who attended the opportunity to benefit from Mr. Owsinski's long and rich experience in the music production field.
