M. Nafi Gürcan (M.Sc.), A. Şanlı Ergün (M.Sc.), and Lütfiye Durak (M.Sc.) have been named the winners of the IEEE Bilkent Student Branch's annual Best Research Presentation Awards. This special designation is given to outstanding presentations appearing at the Research Presentation Days organized by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department.
Every second or higher year Electrical Engineering graduate student gives a 10 to 15 minute speech during Research Presentation Days detailing the research results he or she has collected as part of satisfying their thesis requirement. IEEE Bilkent Student Branch members and EE faculty evaluate the presentations on the basis of clarity, the English language fluency of the presenter, and the presenter's ability to answer questions related to their topic.
Gürcan's presentation was titled Identification of Relative Protein Bands in Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) Using Multiresolutional Snake Algorithm. A New Detection Method for Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers was the title of Ergün's presentation, and Durak presented Nanosecond Optical Parametric Oscillators Generating Eye-Safe Radiation.
