Bilkent Volunteers Plant Trees
In a joint effort with the Ministry of Forestry and the universities in Ankara, a tree-planting project along the highway between Ankara and Gerede started on December 5 and is expected to continue Saturdays and Sundays, as the weather permits, through April 1999.

The target is to plant 600,000 young trees and Bilkent is doing its share of the work by providing transportation to the planting area and brown bag lunches for interested students, faculty, and staff. The Ministry provides engineers for assistance, as well as shovels, pick-axes, boots, and rain parkas for all volunteers.

Last Saturday was the first work weekend and those who participated had the experience of contributing to the environmental health of the area. For more information on future tree-planting weekends, call the Student Union secretary's office at ext. 1327 or 1337.
