New Faces at Bilkent
Oðuz Özbilgin joined Bilkent administrative staff as Vice General Secretary. Previously, Özbilgin worked as the Vice General Secretary of the Presidential Office of the Turkish Republic. He now works with Prof. Ümit Berkman, Vice Rector in charge of administrative and financial affairs.

Özbilgin says, "It is an honour and a privilege for me to work for Bilkent University, a prestigious institution many people would like to be part of. I am committed to contributing to Bilkent's progress."

Mehpare Çelik, the first announcer to be awarded by TSE (Turkish Standards Institute), retired from TRT Television after thirty years, and started as part-time academic staff at Bilkent. Last week, she began giving Turkish Diction classes in the department of Translation and Interpretation.

At her first lesson she said to her class, "Think of this lesson as a game. Do not think about the grades or the exams. And we are going to play this game two hours a week..." Turkish Diction classes will be helpful for the Translation and Interpretation students in the future.

Prof. Tanju Ýnal, Director of the School of Applied Languages, affirmed: "Turkish Diction classes have to be taught not only to the Translation and Interpretation students, but to all students. In the future, every student will have meetings, will talk in public, and how they express themselves is of the utmost importance."
