On June 29, Bilkent University and the software and systems company HAVELSAN signed a cooperation protocol to establish a data science laboratory, to be known for short as the BiHa Lab. The protocol was signed by Prof. Abdullah Atalar, rector of Bilkent University, and Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, general manager and CEO of HAVELSAN.
The BiHa Lab will conduct joint projects in the field of data science, in areas including big data, data analytics, machine learning, data mining, data security and data privacy.
Data science is the primary focus of investigation for the Department of Computer Engineering at Bilkent University; the BiHa Lab, coordinated by Prof. H. Altay Güvenir, will be located in the department. The lab will facilitate technology transfer between Bilkent University and HAVELSAN, with the department’s faculty members and students working together with HAVELSAN professionals.
The BiHa Lab represents the first time HAVELSAN has agreed to become a partner in a university–industry joint laboratory.
