The United Nations secretary-general’s “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women” campaign has proclaimed the 25th of each and every month as “Orange Day,” a day to raise awareness of and take action to end violence against women and girls around the world.
This year, to galvanize such action, the campaign aims to “orange the world.” During the 16 “Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” from the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 to Human Rights Day on December 10, “Orange Events” are taking place around the world.
The 16 days are being observed on the Bilkent University campus in two ways.
Organized by Bilkent University Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri, UNiTE, TURKMSIC and the International Children’s Center (ICC), a panel titled “Kadınlara, Gençlere, Çocuklara, Şiddete Hayır!” will be held at 11:30 a.m. on December 5 at the ICC’s Robert Debré Hall in the Bilkent University Main Campus Library.
The speakers will be Mükerrem Keskintepe (retired teacher), Zeliha Ünalcı (UN) and Dr. Ayşegül Esin (ICC). After the panel, a film titled “Kadına Karşı Şiddetle Mücadele İçin 16 Günlük Aktivizm” will be screened.
Also, the Library gateway’s lights are being turned to orange during this period.
