On November 2, the Bilkent University –TÜSİAD Information Society Forum held a conference on the topic of “Big Data in Business” at the Four Seasons Hotel İstanbul at the Bosphorus.
Opening remarks were offered by Prof. H. Altay Güvenir (chair of Bilkent’s Department of Computer Engineering and director of the Forum), Esin Güral Argat (member of TÜSİAD’s Board of Directors and chair of the Digital Economy Roundtable) and Cansen Başaran-Symes (chair of TÜSİAD). In her remarks, Ms. Başaran-Symes referred to the potential benefits of working with big data, noting that “it is possible to cut costs, increase productivity and create a difference by analyzing big data in an effective manner.”
Dr. Usama Fayyad (president and CEO of Open Insight) and Cem Boyner (chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Boyner Group) gave the keynote speeches at the conference. Dr. Fayyad focused on the role of big data in business and the economic drivers in the changing global data landscape. In his speech, Mr. Boyner noted that customer behaviors have completely changed with the rise of digitalization, and that this trend has created big data, which must be evaluated wisely.
Next on the program was a panel on the applications of big data in business. Panelists were Yusuf Azoz (CEO of Kariyer.net), Çağlar Göğüş (CEO of Hürriyet), Ali Rıza Ersoy (Executive Board member and Digital Factory Division director for Siemens) and Kına Demirel Beskinazi (marketing, communications and CRM director for Migros). Emin Çapa (economy director for CNN TÜRK) moderated the panel.
The Analytics Center served as the content partner in organizing the conference.
Bilkent University and TÜSİAD established the Information Society Forum in order to support Turkey’s transformation to an “information society.” The first event held by forum was a panel on “Big Opportunities in Big Data,” which took place last December at the Bilkent Hotel in Ankara.
